František Ronovský (1929Prague – 2006 Prague)

Family, (1980 – 1987)

Oil, sololit; 210×170 cm, Acquired in 1988, Olomouc Museum of Art, inventory No. O 2129

He was a painter and graphic artist of the scarce art and social resistance.  He studied under professor Souček at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and built on his social paintings of the 1940s which reflected deep human compassion.  He developed the tradition of figurative painting in his large-size paintings which were often made using the demanding encaustic technique. Deep existential insight into delicate intergenerational relations involving the themes of leaving and saying goodbye is very characteristic for his work.  The painting Family from the first half of the 1980s falls into this thematic area. He has admirers and followers (such as Jiří Sozanský) from the younger generations for his perfect crafting skills and intransigence in dealing with the human existence.
