The Olomouc Art Museum is one of the most important institutions of its kind in the Czech Republic in terms of the number of works of art under management (more than 200,000). The museum takes professional care of works belonging to the state and the church as well as private works of art from antiquity to contemporary art culture. The museum’s core collection consists of more than 96,000 objects and is divided by type of art into eleven sub-collections (architecture, artists’ books, photographs, prints, 20th century books, drawings, coins and medals, paintings, sculpture, applied graphics and applied arts ).
The extensive collection of the Archbishopric of Olomouc in the Kroměříž castle, managed by the Kroměříž Archdiocesan Museum, includes approximately 105,000 items – not only paintings, sculptures, drawings, graphics and crafts, but also the castle library and music archive. The Olomouc Archdiocese Museum has under its care a part of the collection of paintings and handicrafts from the Olomouc archbishop’s residence, as well as important works of art lent by the parishes of the Olomouc archdiocese.
