Josef Čapek is one of the most prominent representatives of Czech book culture in the 20th century. Čapek’s book art includes hundreds of book covers and illustrations, his characteristic means of artistic expression being linocut. He developed his own dynamic style applying modern contraction and putting emphasis on the aspect of utility, as he perceived the book as an object of everyday use. The collection of 300 books is accompanied by some 60 pictures and graphic prints.
