Modern age coinage by the Olomouc bishops has its beginnings in the coinage privilege granted to Cardinal Dietrichstein by Emperor Rudolf II in the year 1608. The overall number, along with the artistic level of the production of the coinage, during the 17th and first half of the 18th centuries rank it among the most significant in Europe.
