PERMANENT EXHIBITION

The aim of the permanent exhibition is to present the best of a broad – often contrasting in terms of opinion and style – spectrum of key or otherwise important works of art from the first half of the 20th century, which are part of the rich collection of the Olomouc Museum of Art.

The attic of the museum, in the Mansarda exhibition space, features works from the first half of the 20th century. The emphasis is primarily on paintings and sculptures that reflect the fundamental trends and tendencies in Czech modern art during the period in question. The exhibition focuses on presenting modern trends from expressionism, cubism, and cubo-expressionism to civilism or, conversely, the exoticism of the 1920s. The end of the 1920s and the 1930s are devoted to abstract expressions and surrealism. The last part of the exhibition consists of works reflecting the apocalypse of war in various forms. A specific chapter of this part of the exhibition is modern landscape painting, whose most significant works also reflect (albeit in a different language) the atmosphere of the time in which they were created.

Another part of the exhibition, which included works of art from the second half of the 20th century in the Picture Gallery, has given way to current short-term exhibition projects and will be part of the upcoming exhibition of the Central European Forum Olomouc (SEFO). It has been preserved for the public through a virtual tour.
