On Friday, June 5 at 17 oclock on the occasion Galleries Night in Kromeříž we will begin three exhibitions in the Archbishops castle. Monographic exhibition of Joseph Stern – one of the most important painters of the 18th century in Moravia, will be accompanied by two intimate shows. From the stairs in front of the picture gallery will look down to visitors new five-meter postmodern Pieta by contemporary artist Michal Ožibka and in the picture gallery visitors can learn the details of the planned restoration of selected paintings and furniture from the Archbishops collections, which is funded through the Norwegian funds.
The greatest attention deserves exhibition of Josef Stern (1716-1775). His work decorated interiors of churches and castles in Moravia and Silesia. His paintings can be found in Brno, Kroměříž, Olomouc, Krnov, Dub nad Moravou and in many other towns and villages. Although ranked among the largest and most productive painter of the 18th century in the region, he had not the representative exhibition yet. The exhibition, which organized by Olomouc Museum of Art, Department of Art History, Masaryk University in Brno and Kroměříž National Heritage Institute, will repay this large debt .
Postmodern Pieta, painting by Michal Ožibko (born 1981), reaching monumental proportions – five to four meters. “The image in his modern classic form and in his strong spiritual content appeals to a wide audience of visitors to the castle. Installing this hyper-realist picture in baroque architecture we want to contribute to the discussion on the exhibition of modern and contemporary art in the historic places,” explained Miroslav Kindl from Kroměříž Archdiocesan Museum, which organizes exhibitions in the castle.
Exposure in the cabinet of drawings and graphic in the picture gallery introduces visitors of the castle with restoration of selected paintings and furniture that will in the coming months financed from the Norwegian funds. The project, worth nearly 19 million includes work on 36 paintings, 28 pieces of historic furniture and making 15 unique protective klimarámů air and showcases. Among the most valuable paintings, which will also benefit from necessary repairs include work J. H Schönfeld, J. K. Liška, M. A. Lublinský or Baroque copies of paintings by European masters Rubens and Caravaggio. “From furniture restoration was chosen as a set of furniture from the so-called Winter of the apartment, which is a quality example of 19th-century art furniture,” said Kindl.
