On Friday, 6 September, the international exhibition project Rhythms & Algorithms will start in Opole, Poland, and will present the free works of several generations of women artists from Central Europe – including five artists from Olomouc – Dagmar Havlíčková, Inge Kosková, Miriam Macků, Eleonora Pražáková and Milena Valušková.

“The project was created in a friendly and professional cooperation of several institutions such as the Olomouc Museum of Art, the Czech Centre Warsaw, the Balatonfüred Modern Art Center, the Liszt Institute Warsaw and thanks to the kind support of Jindřich Štreit and Balázs Szluka,” says Štěpánka Bieleszová, the MUO curator behind the project.

The exhibition will focus on examples of free work by several generations of Central European women artists who work with line in their work. The seemingly simple, plain and elementary LINE, LINE, SCRATCH or TOUCH of a pencil or pen tip, in their artistic rendition become a tool that is able, like in geometry, to create a separate, distinct and independent space. Whether we understand it as a volume or space surrounding an imaginary centre or core or, on the contrary, as a virtual or mental delineation of a life frame with all its emotional woes.

“It is also important to follow the sources of inspiration and impulses, leading to a completely different expression for each artist. The source moments are modern classical music, the monotony of everyday prayer, seasonally recurring natural rhythms or movements or generated codes leading to the creation of unmistakable and distinctive artworks that nonverbally, but in a very pleasant visual language, speak to the contemporary viewer and offer him a refuge or literally an escape space from everyday reality,” adds Štěpánka Bieleszová.

The exhibition will be presented throughout the year at Gallery 19 in Bratislava – Old Town, the Czech Centre in Bratislava, Gallery G21 in Olomouc and the Moon Gallery in Pécs.
