Two dozen experts met yesterday at the Museum of Art to the workshop CEAD (Central of European Art Database) to discuss data editing cultural-historical and art-historical nature. Among the speakers were represented by curators from Prague to Košice.

According Olomouc curator Barbora Kundračíková was the aim of strengthening the community, which is engaged in the operation of museum collections. “Archiving, databases and digitizing artworks takes place in any museum, but on a different level,” explained Kundračíková. For big issues considered selection of works and authors, the technical means as well as pedagogical impact.

“The program was directed from the theoretical to the practical, which was beneficial,” commented workshop Michal Čudrnák from the Slovak National Gallery. He introduced the Web art. “Makes online collections of Slovak galleries and in a way has many similarities with the project Museum of Art CEAD. Collecting database in Slovakia is only one based on a decree to all the galleries must contribute. This database, we manage and we are using data for publication on the internet. Our ambition is to put everything on the web for free,” said Čudrnák.

Part of yesterdays program was also a lecture by Jana Šindelová, Michal Motyčka and renowned glass artist Václav Cigler, organized in cooperation with Palacky University.

CEAD tries through profiles of the key artistic figures of the Visegrad Four countries affect the general aspects of time and space in Central Europe since 1945. It is also a platform for the presentation of basic scientific research and qualitative analysis of the socio-historical foundations of art and spilling over into the present. The database is accessible at www.cead.space.

Workshop on the topic Database as the environment should be in the spring of next year to establish a professional conference.
