Gina Renotière, Deputy Director of the Olomouc Museum of Art, was elected the new President of ICOM Czech Republic. She will replace Martina Lehmann after five years.

“It is a great honour and a real commitment for the Museum of Art and me as well, because we have the period of preparations for the General Conference of ICOM before us, which will be hosted by the Czech Republic in 2022,” says Gina Renotière.

It is an extraordinary event including more than 150 lectures or workshops attended by over 3,000 museum workers from around the world. The ICOM National Committee Czech Republic is already establishing cooperation with partners at all levels, from local to national and international, so that everything goes smoothly.

“Organizing a top level general conference is a primary task for us now, and, also a very demanding one. At the same time, however, I see this as a unique opportunity to present Czech culture on the international stage, “emphasizes the new president of ICOM Czech Republic.

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) is an international professional non-governmental organization with the status of a UNESCO consultant. It was founded in 1946 on the initiative of Chaucey J. Hamlin (USA) and Georgess Sallese (France). In 2013, ICOM brought together 32,969 members from 20,000 museums – individuals (museum staff and collaborators) or institutions (museums and related institutions) – from 137 states and territories, in 115 national committees, 31 international commissions, 5 regional alliances, 18 affiliates, 7 technical commissions and many other working groups. They represent all kinds of museums – science and technology, art, archaeology and history, ethnography, natural sciences, etc., as well as institutions with a similar focus, such as zoos, aquariums and botanical gardens.
