Virgin Mary of Křtiny

According to legend, this statue of the Virgin Mary standing on the main altar of the pilgrimage church in Křtiny was found in a bush during a storm in the nearby village of Bukovina. It was to be brought to these places by the messenger of God (angel or lightning) during the Byzantine iconoclasm (8th – 9th century). The cult of the Virgin Mary Křtinská, which is attributed to a number of miraculous healings, reached its peak in the 17th and 18th centuries when it crossed the borders of Moravia. The exhibition will introduce visitors to the newly restored votive painting of the statue of this amorous statue from the collections of the Archbishopric of Olomouc. Using examples of old prints, prayer books, prints and devotional objects, he also describes the form and development of respect for the love images of the Virgin Mary of the 17th – 19th centuries in the context of post-Tridentine piety and pilgrimage in Moravia.
