The intimate event Art Brut Film Olomouc has been taking place since 2012 every year at the end of March in the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum. The basic idea of behind the Olomouc Art Brut film showings, in which the Olomouc Museum of Modern Art and the Prague ABCD group have also been taking part, is to spread the relevant information on this unique artistic expression and to draw attention to the various forms of its presentation, but also its necessary protection. In order to acquaint the public with authentic creators of art brut in the Czech Republic and abroad, we also have the possibility to see and make use of what today is a rich and constantly expanding collection of interesting documentary films and videos on these curious works. Important foreign guests have also taken part in the festival over the last seven years, presenting films and giving informal talks with viewers. We’ve invited leading personalities to Olomouc who have contributed to the reception of art brut, such as collector and film director Bruno Decharme, Polish director Ewa Toboła, Director of the Art Brut Centre in the Museum Gugging (Austria) Dr Johann Feilacher, French reporter and director Philippe Lespinasse, collector and director of the famous museum of outsider art La Fabuloserie in Dicy, France and of her own private gallery in Paris, Sophie Bourbonnais, and the active French film director and collector Arthur Borgnis.
For its forthcoming eighth year, ABF 2019 a/k/a PRIVATE PARADISES has prepared a collection of films and videos primarily documenting idiosyncratic imaginary private garden-paradises and the remarkable dwellings of spontaneous artists whose original and very creative methods improve and personally complete their everyday immediate surroundings (home, garden, environs), building their dreamed-of paradises quite often at great personal sacrifice. These unique localities are charming and fragile, and methods to preserve and protect them are quite demanding. Despite this, there are many excellent examples caught on camera which are testimony to the responsible and informed approach and understanding of the real societal import of these poetic places in the chaotic globalised world of today, bringing a report on the essentialness of the real emotional relationship people have to the living space they occupy, and on the importance of feedback between individual and collective identity and a given place.
