THE REMAINS OF THE OLOMOUC PŘEMYSLOVIANS FAMILY AND THEIR BURIAL COFFINS

In the Church of St. Stephen at the Monastery Hradisko in 2019, a significant discovery was made of a two-piece relic casket of several important medieval personalities of Olomouc – especially the successful Olomouc Přemyslid dukes Ota I (1045 – 1087) and Ota III (1122 – 1160) and their wives, who were, among other things, the founders of the monastery Hradisko. This discovery, whose significance goes beyond the borders of the Olomouc region and is extraordinary in the context of the whole of Central Europe, was presented to the visitors of our museum in its discovery state in the autumn of 2018, i.e. at the time of the beginning of expert research of this unique monument. The surveys were a continuation of the scientific research project on the Prague Premyslid dukes, which has been ongoing for many years at the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

After the anthropological and genetic surveys of the remains and the restoration of the two Baroque caskets in which the remains were originally stored, we will present the results of all the scientific work in the form of an exhibition and a scientific publication.
