SEFO Triennial 2024
Trienále SEFO 2024

On 27 June, MUO will launch the second SEFO Triennial – a showcase of contemporary Central European art, this time with the title MOMENTS! The curators have chosen this one with reference to key moments of our past, present and future. The main themes that will be presented at the exhibitions at the MUO and at a number of other venues in Olomouc are monuments – monuments and memorials as carriers of symbols, documents and archives – tools for exploring history, and mockuments – as a method of creative reflection on these values.

SEFO will provide a space for discussion of the problems of shared space; for example, the Olomouc one will feature large-scale objects and installations created for the site. The triennial will also present part of the collection of the Kunstmuseum Bochum, whose director from 1972 to 1997 was the Czech art historian Petr Spielmann. On this occasion, SEFO’s permanent exhibition Century of Relativity will be reinstalled and works by Josef and Anni Albers, Joseph Beuys, Terry Haass, Kazimir Malevich, Louis Nevelson, Wladyslaw Strzeminski and Ossip Zadkin, among others, will be presented. Attention will also be paid to the personality of Spielmann himself, another of the monuments of modern Central European history.

Visitors can look forward to seeing forty artists, architects and women from the wider area of Central Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Slovenia, Belarus, Ukraine): Zsolt Astalosz, AVU, School of Architecture – Miroslav Šik, Anna Svobodová, Lenka Milerová, Michaela Černická, Tomáš Daždoň, EtchingRoom1 (Kristina Yarosh, Anna Khodkova), Ala Savashevich, Andreas Fogarasi, Karolina Grzywnowicz, Martin Horák, Vendula Chalánková, Aglaia Konrad, Robert Kuśmirowski, Marek Kvetan, Roman Liubun, Dorit Margreiter Choy, Ilona Németh, Tobias Putrih, Vojtěch Radakulan, Randomroutines (Krisztián Kristóf, Tamás Kaszás), Jasmin Schaitl & Daria Lytvynenko, Matěj Smetana, Petr Spielmann, Tytus Szabelski, Jakub Tajovský, Tomáš Vaněk, Nela Vicanová, UMPRUM, Studio A4 – Roman Brychta, Markéta Mráčková, Barbora Šimonová, VUT Brno, Faculty of Architecture – Szymon Rozwałka, Jaroslav Sedlák, Jan Mléčka, Vojtěch Jemelka, Martin Zet. These artists will retrospectively reflect on a timeline full of jumps, twists, crises, but also periods of apparent calm. There will be MOMENTS of extraordinary historical and symbolic significance, MOMENTS when, on the basis of social agreements, we erected monuments to personalities and events that deserved it at a given moment and according to a given situation, MOMENTS of retrospective looking back into historical sources and reviewing past decisions, and MOMENTS when we dealt with historical events and their reminders creatively, through creative invention or mystification.
