The Lunies family has not been a real family for a long time. Lissy Lunies (Corinna Harfouch), who is in her seventies, is calm and appears content when her husband Gerd (Hans-Uwe Bauer), who is slowly wasting away due to dementia, is placed in a nursing home. But her newfound freedom doesn’t last long: serious illness and the onset of blindness signal that she doesn’t have much time alone. Meanwhile, her son Tom (Lars Eidinger), who is a conductor, is working with his depressed friend Bernard (Robert Gwisdek) on a piece called Dying. Tom’s ex-girlfriend Liv (Anna Bederke) wants him to become the surrogate father of her child. His sister Ellen (Lilith Stangenberg) begins an affair with a married dentist. But everything in life has a price. In the face of death, the estranged family members are finally reunited.
