It presents individual photographers connected with the Olomouc region, whose handwriting resonates in an international context. It travels to galleries in the Czech Republic and Europe and combines the medium of the book with conceptual photographic exhibitions. Recently, he has also been collecting awards. Most recently, the Olomouc Photographers edition, which is a collaboration between the Olomouc Museum of Art (MUO) and Palacký University Press (VUP), earned an honorable mention at the Central European House of Photography Book Biennial in Bratislava. The competition was held on the occasion of the 32nd edition of the Month of Photography festival, which traditionally takes over most of the major galleries and art spaces in the Slovak capital.
The international expert jury consisting of Jana Hojstričová (Slovakia), Josef Moucha (Czech Republic) and Thomas Licek (Austria) was impressed by the concept and theme of the Olomouc Photographers edition. So far, four volumes have been published, presenting the work of the master of female nudes and portraits Miloslav Stibor, the authentic documentary photographer Petr Zatloukal, the unmistakable avant-gardist Karel Kašpařík and the postmodern solitaire Michal Kalhouse.
“The award from the international jury is a great encouragement for us to continue working on the edition. It confirms to us that Olomouc photographers have international potential and resonate far beyond the borders of the Olomouc region. After all, this was our goal at the beginning of the edition – to revive and remind the artistic legacy of the often partially forgotten prominent figures of Czech photography,” says Štěpánka Bieleszová, editor of the edition and curator of the MUO.
The author team is now working on the fifth volume of the edition. The newest book of Olomouc photographers will present the work of Blanka Lamrová and will be published by the end of this year.
