Century of Relativity II Will Feature 60 New Works

The aim of the permanent exhibition Century of Relativity II is to present the best of a broad – often contrasting in terms of opinion and style – spectrum of key or otherwise important works of art from the first half of the 20th and 21st centuries, which are part of the rich collection of the Olomouc Museum of Art.

Works from the first half of the 20th century are on display in the Attic. The Picture Gallery one floor below featured works from the second half of the last century. And it is precisely the Picture Gallery that is reopening to visitors after a brief hiatus. It now also offers a glimpse into the 21st century. “The revamped ‘Century of Relativity’ features 60 newly added works. These are primarily from the postwar period. We have also prepared an entirely new section dedicated to the reflection of nature in art from the 1960s to the recent present,” said Štěpánka Bieleszová, the exhibition’s curator, describing the new additions.

In the revamped exhibition, you’ll encounter works by Václav Boštík, Mikuláš Medek, Zdeněk Sýkora, Jiří Kolář, Jana Želibská, Adriena Šimotová, Stanislav Kolíbal, Karel Malich, and many other Czech and Central European artists.

A new section dedicated to nature brings together, for example, the works of Josef Šíma, Václav Cigler, Pavel Hayek, Roman Franta, and Lubomír Typlt.
