A prodigal lover of color. Stanislav Mensik 1912-1970

The catalogue for the exhibition of the same name presents the painter from Svatý Kopeček, an artist of great talent and strong expression as well as touching tenderness and fragility. The focus of his work lies in Christian themes, but he also devoted himself to landscape painting, still life and the pictorial record of simple stories and fragments of life. The most significant part of his work was produced during the war years with his idiosyncratic interpretations of the French painter Georges Rouault (1871-1958), which resonated strongly with Menšík’s artistic outlook.
