The Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum received, the first in the Czech Republic, a prestigious   “European Heritage Label“. It is one of nine European sites, which have received the label this year, celebrating and symbolising European ideals, values and history. Experts thus acknowledged its uniqueness, residing in extent of exhibition spaces, richness of the collections, as well as in intent to present stories, showing the shared history.

For the Olomouc Museum of Art, of which the Archdiocesan Museum is a part, the European Heritage Label is a great honour and opportunity for more intensive utilisation of touristic potential of the site. “We perceive the Label as confirmation of the world-class of the Archdiocesan Museum, and also as a support of opportunities of the proper building and exhibitions in it. We are proud of the Label and believe that it will bring new visitors to the Museum. At the same time we perceive it as a big commitment “, the director Michal Soukup rejoiced at the decision of the comission.

The European Heritage Label is not the first outstanding European appreciation granted to the Archdiocesan Museum. In 2008 it was nominated for prestigious European museum of the Year  for exceptional quality of the Museum and its collections. One year later it won the most important international award in the field of preservation of monuments – European Union prize for cultural heritage Europa Nostra.  The Museum won this “monument preservation Oscar“ for a series of restoration exhibitions and accompanying catalogues, which documented, between 2004 and 2008, restoration of important relics from the fund of old art in Moravia.
